What is Pareidolia?
To quote my source of all knowledge…
“Pareidolia (/pærɪˈdoʊliə/ parr-i-DOH-lee-ə) is a psychological phenomenon in which the mind responds to a stimulus, usually an image or a sound, by perceiving a familiar pattern where none exists (e.g., in random data).
Common examples are perceived images of animals, faces, or objects in cloud formations, the Man in the Moon, the Moon rabbit, hidden messages within recorded music played in reverse or at higher- or lower-than-normal speeds, and hearing indistinct voices in random noise such as that produced by air conditioners or fans.”
Have I Got Pareidolia?
I think that I do so therefore I am self diagnosing myself…
While standing waiting to go home after work one night in the pouring rain, something caught my eye. There was a pattern on the wall next to me made up of stone markings and wet patches from the rain. From a distance I could see so many faces in it.
When I took a closer look I could see even more, I was literally staring at it for five minutes. I then took out my iPhone and knew this would stand out much more in black and white…
I’ve always been aware that I see faces in objects but now I know there’s an actual name for it. Yet another reason I am special!
Take a good, long look and let me know what you can see. Do you have Pareiodlia?
I’ve just stared at again for 5 minutes and I swear I can see Elvis.
