5 Awesome Features Of iOS 10 For iPhones & iPads
Just like a lot of people I love my Apple devices and I’ve recently upgraded to an iPhone 7 plus. There’s so many great new features that Apple tell you about on their latest mobile operating system iOS 10. However, there’s also a lot of features that are no so much ‘secret’ but more like not advertised so much.
I’ve discovered a few ‘hidden’ features of iOS 10 for my mobile devices and I’m sure not everyone knows about them so I’d like to share them with you.
Double tapping the Home button on the iPhone 7 Plus
I couldn’t figure out what the purpose of this was at first. All it seemed to do was put a big empty space across half of my screen. After a little bit of research I realised it’s purpose.
The Plus versions of the latest iPhones are fairly large and unlike older iPhones are quite difficult to use one-handed (unless you have hands like shovels). So, if you have the handset in just one hand and double tap the Home button it will bring down the top of the screen to the middle part of the screen allowing you to press anything located there with your thumb. Awesome, right?
3D Touch might sound a little technical but basically all it means is ‘how hard you press’. There are many ways you can use the 3D Touch but here’s what I’ve used so far on my iPhone 7…
Whatever apps you use they will learn what part of the app you use most often so to save you from having to open the app up and find the function you want. So, from the app on your Home screen just press a little harder and you’ll get something like below. For this example I used Spotify…who doesn’t like some Scandipop or a bit of Judy Garland after all?
If you see a hyperlink and are not sure if you want to actually go to the page or not. Hold a little harder on the link text and you will get a preview of where the link goes…
If you use Spotify and are playing a song but want to know what another song sounds like, press harder on the song you want a preview of and it stops the currently playing track and gives you a snippet of the other one. I love this!
This one only works on my iPad Air. If you are using Safari and are on a page with a link, you might want to open up that link but still see the original page on the screen at the same time. Not possible you say, well it is. If you hold down the link you will see a menu asking to open in Split Screen. Choose that and you will see both pages side by side. Cool, right?
As well as the Digital Touch Ink things you can do with iMessages you can also make your message bubble slam or have some confetti on your recipients screen. It’s quite easy to do, start typing your message and then press hard on the up arrow (it will just send if you don’t press hard enough, I’ve sent a lot of wasted messages practising this one) and you get these…
That’s only 5 features but I’m sure are a lot more I’ve yet to discover and I can’t wait!
