If I was having a “Come Dine With Me” style dinner party for five people, including myself, and I could invite four famous people – dead or alive, real of fictional – who would I invite..?
My first guest would be Superman. I’ve always been a huge Superman fan. So much so that I have a Superman logo tattooed on my upper arm. I love all the incarnations of the story from the original series, through the Lois & Clark adventures, Smallville and the new reboots of the movies. It’s a classic story with everything I could ever ask for – aliens, geeks, superpowers, a love story and a hero that always defeats evil.
Does Superman count as two guests? No, not really. I’d have him arrive as Clark Kent and halfway through the meal I’d make sure one of the other guests chokes (if I am cooking, that wouldn’t be a difficult task) and he would need to change into Superman to save him. I know it’s not the usual type of emergency that Superman has to deal with but it’s my party and too much drama could result in me losing points – I want to win!
Guest number two would be the very cool will.i.am. He is just too cool for words – even his website address is cool! I’m also pretty sure that he is indeed actually from outer space and/or the future. I’m convinced that sometime during the period when the Black Eyed Peas weren’t doing very much he travelled off to Planet Pop in the year 3000, said “hi” to Busted and came back with the future sound of music and the dress sense to match. I love his music, his clothes and could just listen to him talk for hours. He’s astronomically talented, appears very grounded for being so far out of this world and has a really cheeky sense of humour.
However, if he comes to my party he will need to sing and it has to be Scream & Shout. He will just have to Facetime Britney Spears to do her part because she is sooo not invited!
My penultimate guest would be who else but Doctor Who. My hero, idol…call him what you will but he would have to be invited. Ever since I can remember I have been obsessed with Doctor Who (as yet I have no tattoo but this is the one I will be getting very soon) and everything Doctor Who related. I’m not a big science fiction fan but this is science fiction that I get. From the original wobbly set episodes to the new big budget episodes, I love them all. I realise that there are currently twelve (or thirteen but let’s not get into that, we’re having a party for goodness sakes) different regenerations of The Doctor and my Doctor is the Fifth but my favourite Doctor is the Tenth. So, which one would I choose? Well if the dinner party is to last at least 3 hours then I would want a different Doctor ringing my doorbell approximately every half hour. I understand it’s not good for different Doctors to be in the same place at the same time but he’s an intelligent man so I’ll leave him to sort out the logistics.
Last but by no means least, my final guest would be the children’s author Enid Blyton. She was a wonderful storyteller and The Famous Five and Secret Seven books kept me entertained for years when I was young. Together with other books such as The Magic Faraway Tree she allowed me to escape into a different world, a world full of mystery and fantasy. She inspired me to write my own stories when I was younger and I’m sure if it wasn’t for her then I wouldn’t have the passion that I do for writing or for any other creative talents that I might or might not have…
There’s also the fact that we need a woman at the party – who else is going to do the washing up?
That’s my party and what fun it would be. Imagine the stories, imagine the entertainment…
