We’ve Got Stars In Our Eyes Once Again…

Stars In Their Eyes is back on television! This was a show that I grew up with when Saturday was the night for television and I am very excited about seeing its return…

Forget the celebrity versions of past favourite TV shows this is going back to the original and allowing the ordinary public to take part. It’s a singing competition where everyday people are transformed into super stars. Joe from Newcastle could be Jay Z or Rita from Dundee could be Lady Gaga – it’s that magical!

The well know catchphrase used to be “Tonight Matthew, I’m going to be…” which the contestants used to say to the host at the time and most widely known host, Matthew Kelly, before they walked through those famous doors as themselves and came out the other side – via a lot of dry ice – to become their musical hero.

The new host will be comedian Harry Hill. I love Harry Hill, I think is he is so random and awesome but he’s not to everyone’s taste and you either love him or hate him. I’m keen to see how he develops the show to suit his style. Interestingly, Harry appeared on a celebrity version of the show as Morrissey…

Past winners have done quite well from the show going on to play cabaret gigs and such. It’s never going to be worldwide stardom but I’m sure they are living the dream. The first ever winner, Maxine Barrie as Shirley Bassey, is still larging it up in the holiday resorts…

The number one song when I was born was “Wuthering Heights” by Kate Bush, well this was it performed on Stars In Their Eyes…

There’s simply far to many performances to mention but I’d recommend having a quick look on YouTube and either listen to them for the first time or remind yourself of days gone by!

Watch this space for a review of the first new show…

OMG – Pft me…
