If Only Marina & The Diamonds Had Recorded A Song With Take That Then This Would Have Truly Been The Greatest New Music Friday…

Today was perhaps one of the best days in recent times for new music releases as two big favourites of mine released new songs to tempt us from their forthcoming albums… What made it even better was the fact that it was a kind of surprise as I didn’t actually realise this was happening until I found out yesterday (ah, the joys of Twitter). The first release was from Marina & The Diamonds – one of my current favourite artists. The new song is called “Froot” and when I first listened to it, I’ll be honest, I wasn’t too sure about it. This was mainly due to the fact that the lead song from her last album, “Primadonna“, was an “instant love” from practically the first chord. I therefore thought this time that the new song would be a grower – and it sure is. After listening to it three times I’ve decided I really, really like it. It’s very electro-pop, has a hint of La Roux and refers to fruit machine and old computers – what’s not to love? I’m pissing my pants in anticipation for the proper video and the new album now…

The second release was from Take That. Granted, I hated them when I was growing up and they were in their “initial” hey day but they have quite clearly become the ultimate “man band” – I’m pretty sure there is no one that doesn’t like them these days. I think Gary Barlow is an amazingly talented person and he seems like such a nice guy too which is a bonus. They’ve lost a member this time around as sadly Jason left but I really don’t think that will make a difference because it will allow us to hear more from Howard. When I heard “These Days” on the radio this morning it was an “instant love” as it’s just got that “something” that proves Gary can write the perfect pop song. It seems like the current trend for the latest pop songs is to be quite retro with a slight eighties vibe and this song certainly has that and more…
This was a great day for music and I look forward to more songs from both these artists but in the meantime my music playlists will be filled with Take That and Marina & The Diamonds back catalogues!
