Old Photos Of Old Friends…

photo_2During my first year at University I met people who I thought I would be friends with forever…

On the 14th September it will be 17 years since I left home to start my new life at University and I met some brilliant people while I stayed on campus. Sharing your life with new people who are all away from home for the first time you form strong bonds really quickly.

I was fortunate as I really liked and got on well with everyone (well, I thought so) but there were ones who didn’t like this one and other ones who didn’t like that one etc. I was just having the time of my life and didn’t want to get drawn into any petty arguments.

It’s made me think about people who appear and then disappear at various stages throughout life. Two particular quotes play in mind, the first from Sunscreen

Understand that friends come and go,but for the precious few you should hold on. Work hard to bridge the gaps in geography and lifestyle because the older you get, the more you need the people you knew when you were young…

The second from Stand By Me

That happens sometimes. Friends come in and out of your life like busboys in a restaurant

This photo was taken on our last night at the halls of residence…

Some of the people from the photo simply faded away over time.

Some are fading more slowly and are now nothing more than an occasional update on my Facebook feed.

Some, gladly, are still only a phone call away and I have to try and work harder at bridging that gap!
