It’s time to get technical and sciencey.
Are you scared..?
Regular readers of my blog will know I am a massive Doctor Who fan so when I stumbled across this article on the BBC website today I was immediately intrigued…
It got me thinking which is always worry! Don’t be silly I haven’t come up with a solution to allow time travel – I wish. I also understand that this experiment was using “virtual reality” and it was a psychological test to see if the subjects could alter the outcome of an event if they could re-live it.
As interesting as that may be it’s a bit too boring and gruesome for me so my mind wandered back to a few days ago when I noticed the Google Street View car out and about with it’s camera. This is an amazing product which has helped me out on a number of occasions but also I love just “strolling around” it. Surely by now they have covered most locations more than once which means they have saved “historical” data. I know for a fact my area has changed dramatically in the last few years so I assume other areas change also.
I also love looking at old photos of streets and towns I am familiar with and have always thought it would be amazing if one time when you turned a corner you were transported to the same street but many years before.
Can you see what I am getting at?
Historical Street View + Virtual Reality = Google Memory Lane
Pop on a virtual “hat” where you can be inside Google Street View, walking down streets you used to know and be back home in time for tea!
It might take a few years to build up a historical database but as Google Street View is an ongoing project then this could be too.
So, message to Google – if you are reading this that was my idea but feel free to develop it further as you have a little more funding available than me. All I ask is I get a wee mention somewhere – past, present or future.
