When Superman Met Doctor Who…

...I love Superman and I love Doctor Who.

I also love music so what’s an obvious thing to do?

Yes, combine them…

The ultimate question is how to do this?

Well, there’s a song called Superman (It’s Not Easy) by Five For Fighting which is one of my favourites and I’d still really like this song even if it wasn’t about Superman. The lyrics are brilliant, the piano melody is amazing and John Ondrasik’s voice has a wonderful tone to it. The song was also featured on an episode of Smallville called Stray which was a very emotional episode and adds even more meaning to the song.

There’s also a great acoustic version of the song too and I love when songs are stripped back to the purest form.

I like it too when people go to the trouble of making lyric videos to songs, it’s a great alternative for a video and, of course, it allows you to see the actual lyrics.

Okay, so where does Doctor Who come into this? Sadly, my musical skills start and stop at writing words and I wish I could play an instrument but I can’t. I can write, however, and I think I can put down a nice word or two so I replaced the words of Five For Fighting’s lyrics to fit with Doctor Who (call me sad but I’m too old to care these days) with the optimistic hope that someday, someone with a guitar and a voice would sing them so I could then complete the lyrics…

Therefore, forthwith and without further ado, my request is thus – can anyone reading now, help me to complete this project and make a sad superhero/timelord worshipping geek’s week/month/year/life?

Here are my lyrics…

I can’t run to time
I can’t read the clocks
When I’m inclined to think
It’s miles outside the box
I’m always just in
And sometimes I’m out
Of time and space, can’t find my place

I’m just wandering, time’s ticking
But never tocks

Why do I always land
Close to every rock
When sometimes all I want is a safe
Place upon the dock
I’m maybe a fool
And so hard to please
I constantly travel or I will unravel

I’m just wandering, keys ready
But cant find the lock

On and on until all is gone
But it’s okay, I’ll save the day
It’s just what I do
but for who?

I can’t run to time
I can’t read the clocks
I just open doors
When I hear the knocks

If no one helps then once I get my TARDIS and/or ability to fly I will cause mayhem in the world.

Thank you.

Steve…

  1. Hey, Steve I love your lyrics and wish I could help you out but my voice has rusted along with my guitar strings. I’d love to hear what you end up with, though.

  2. Heya Steve, saw your comment at the Community Pool.

Probably the easiest way to go about this is to look for an instrumental version of this song… YouTube has got a number of them. I’m not sure if copyrights are a concern for you, but at least you could try out your lyrics with one of them and see if they fit.

      1. Tsk, tsk, Steve, great artisans can’t get by on laziness… ๐Ÿ˜‰ At the very least, you could try to contact some YouTubers and see if they’ll do it up for you…

  3. Even I seem to have the same problem. I can write lyrics and words just flow, but sadly singing and guitar do not seem to get along with me ๐Ÿ˜ฆ I hope you get music for your song soon though ๐Ÿ˜€
