As you may know I am an iTunes-a-holic and to make sure I remember to listen to older songs, once a month I will add all songs by a particular artist to my iPod so that for that month I will have their songs pop up when I play it on shuffle mode.
This month I have chosen Ocean Colour Scene.
Ocean Colour Scene are one of my favourite bands of all time. I originally discovered them during the Britpop era and they are one of the only bands from that time that are still producing wonderful music that I love listening to.
The lead singer,Simon Fowler, has a very unique voice and he has recently done some new material out-with the band but I’ve not yet had a chance to listen to that…yet.
Their album “Mosley Shoals” was my first introduction to the band and from that “The Day We Caught The Train” is a classic…
One thing I love about Ocean Colour Scene is the fact that they never ever forget to come to Aberdeen when they are touring. A lot of bands think that there is nowhere further north in Scotland than Glasgow worth going to and that annoys me.
The first time I ever saw them live was at Aberdeen beach and the song I really remember from that occasion was “Profit In Peace” as the atmosphere was amazing…
Since then I have seen them live almost every time they have been in Aberdeen. They have a fantastic mix of upbeat songs, chilled out songs and there really is a song to put on to suit every single mood. They are brilliant live, brilliant in the studio and I love hearing their acoustic versions of their hits…
If I was asked to pick one particular song as my favourite I really don’t think I could as there are simply too many to choose from. I’m really looking forward to hearing them pop up on my iPod over the next month.
Thank you Ocean Colour Scene for being my Artist Of The Month and also for giving me almost 20 years of wonderful music!
