I am currently listening to Polly Scattergood.
(1) She’s ace and I love her music
(2) Her new album Arrows is released on Monday and it’s quite exciting.
It’s hard to believe Arrows is only her second album. It seems like ages since I discovered her first album, Polly Scattergood and I’ve been looking forward to hearing some new stuff for a very long time.
Some people describe her sound as a blend of Kate Bush, Björk, and Tori Amos. I think her vocal range, mixture of upbeat and haunting songs find a place in anyone’s music collection for any mood or occasion.
I would say my favourite song from her first album is “Other Too Endless” as it just has everything I like in a song and I can listen to it on replay, never tiring of it.
Another stand out track is “Please Don’t Touch” it really shows off her full range of vocals and has quite a catchy hook.
Actually, there is no song on the album that I would ever skip if it popped up when I was playing random songs. Also, she does a fab cover of “Puff, The Magic Dragon”
I’ve not fully listened to all the tracks on the stream preview of Arrows but I have to say I really like the track “Falling”.
When “Disco Damaged Kid” starts it spookily reminds me of the Nan Vernon version of the Everly Brothers song “Love Hurts“. I really loved Nan’s version of that song and it features on the soundtrack for the remake of the movie “Halloween 2“. It just gives me chills every time I hear it and when I heard Polly singing on “Disco Damaged Kid” I just thought wow…
If you haven’t listened to Polly before I would very, very much recommend that you do – you will not be disappointed.
